Good ole Teflon is in the news again!

April 21, 2006, 5 Billion Dollar Class Action Suit Filed against Dupont

Owners of Teflon-coated pots and pans in 15 states want to
have their cases combined in a $5 billion class-action lawsuit alleging that
DuPont Co. failed to disclose possible health risks from using the nonstick
cookware.

The lawsuits claim that DuPont for years told the government and consumers that
Teflon was safe although its own studies showed the material could become toxic
when heated "enough to fry an egg," according to Des Moines lawyer Kim Baer,
who represents six plaintiffs from Iowa.

The Chemical in Teflon, PFOA, is now classified with Lead, Mercury, PCB's and other dangerous toxins by the EPA.

Finally, after 2 1/2 years the EPA has finally decided that the Chemical in Teflon and stainmaster carpet known  as PFOA  should be banned. They are now classifying it right along with lead, mercury, PCB's, and other toxic substances. Studies show  PFOA is in the blood of nearly every person in the US. It takes 10 years or more for the chemical to get out of our bodies and out of the environment. Finally it was announced that by 2010 all PFOA will no longer be used for things like Stainmaster carpet, Teflon pots & pans, or waterproofing clothing such as Gore-Tex.  This eliminates 95% of the chemicals use.  The year 2015 is the deadline to remove virtually 100% of it out of things like emissions during the manufacture of certain products.

Dr Young, Author of the Best Selling Book "THE PH MIRACLE" recommends and uses Saladmaster Cookware.

You may have seen Dr. Young on several of the morning shows over the last few years. His book the PH Miracle was on the NY Times Bestseller list for several weeks. It is a wonderful book, I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their health or anyone especially with cancer.

This Dec 2005 Saladmaster received a letter from Dr. Young, talking about the problems associated with cooking your food in regular store bought stainless steel.  Dr. Young is one of the foremost experts on the body and how your body's PH can either hurt or help you in fighting off most diseases.

Here is the letter:

To Whom It May Concern;

As a microbiologist, I pioneered the study of ultra light microscopy. The lifestyle you live, the foods you eat and the way you prepare your foods has a vital roll on the health of the blood and tissue.

If your foods are devitalized or contaminated with chemicals or metals your blood, which becomes tissue will be comprised. If the blood is deprived of healthy foods that have been properly prepared over a period of time, degeneration and cellular transformation will occur. With 1 in 3 people at risk for cancer and so many people dying of cardiovascular diseases, it is essential that people take charge of their own health, eat the right foods and prepare them properly.

All foods have energetic qualities. Unfortunately, most cooked food have lost their energy and are dead. Saladmaster's unique system of low temperatures, water free, semi vacuum cooking minimizes the oxidation of the food's nutrients and electrons and maximizes the energetic qualities. The food is more alive with electrons-the spark of life!

Many cookware sold in stores can release chemicals and metals into the foods we eat. Saladmaster's cooking surface is made from 316L surgical stainless steel. This type of metal does not leach metals into your food and is safe to cook on.

Choosing the right kind of cookware is a vital component of a healthy living program. We are happy owners of this fine product and recommend it to anyone who cares about their health and the health of their family.

Dupont is in the news again.

Washington Post November 30, 2005

DuPont Pays Heavy Price For Teflon Cover-Up

Dec 2005 Du Pont Co. has reached a settlement with federal officials over the charges that DuPont had concealed the harmful health effects of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a chemical used to produce Teflon.

As Much as $313 Million  Neither DuPont nor the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have disclosed the terms of the deal. The agency could have fined the company as much as $313 million.

Concealed for 20 Years  The EPA has alleged that DuPont covered up important information about health effects and water supply pollution for 20 years. Environmental groups have asked federal officials to impose substantial fines on DuPont for failing to tell the government that PFOA can pass from a mother's blood to her fetus. The chemical has been linked to both cancer and birth defects in animal studies.

DuPont Argues No Harm DuPont of course has maintained that PFOA has no negative health effects. Earlier this year, DuPont settled a class-action lawsuit over the issue for $107.6 million.

In addition to the civil suit DuPont has just settled, there is an ongoing criminal investigation of its actions regarding PFOA pollution.
